28 January 2012 00:00 - Lions win to go top of the League for first time this season |
| CPR Lions 1-0 Aldershot Boys / Girls
The Lions went into this match knowing what an important weekend it could be, as all 4 teams at the top were playing each other. If the results went the right way, it could see the Lions on top for the first time this season. It turned out to be the type of game everyone anticipated, with Aldershot looking to avenge the defeat suffered at our hands early in the season.
Going into the match, the Lions had a few injury scares, as well as illness, and were missing both Tom and John Black so Stevie stepped in at short notice to help with numbers.
It was clear from the start that Aldershot were well up for the game, and they immediately put the Lions defence under extreme pressure. The Lions did start slow, and found it difficult picking up the dangerous Aldershot attackers, and time after time missed tackles allowing a number of shots on goal. Charlie again showed excellent form in handling these with confidence. The Lions kept giving the ball away too easily and had to defend well to handle some good corners delivered by Aldershot. Aldershot were physical but fair, and clearly sensed an opportunity to get a win.
At last mid way into the first half, the Lions started to get a grip and managed to string some passing moves together. Joe Waight, Ollie Blake, Stevie W and Joe Silcock all contributed to some positive play, and slowly the Lions were getting back into the game, battling for the ball. Joe Silcock had a good shot at goal from the right which the goalie palmed out and was relieved to see the ball go wide from a follow up from Ollie. Sam Walker continued his good form from making good tackles, which broke up play, and Joe Waight in his new found position, was now directing play for the Lions. It was still too close to call as the half time whistle sounded.
Half Time CPR Lions 0 - 0 Aldershot Boys / Girls
The half time team talk from Darren, galvanised the boys to push forward from the off, and it was the Lions that started the better. It was after 5 minutes that the all important goal arrived. Ben Green, picked up the ball on the right of midfield. He was not closed down much to the annoyance of the Aldershot coach, and went on a mazy run, cut inside on to his favoured left foot and placed a powerful shot from outside the box, high to the goalies left. A cheer went up from home supporters and coaches, it was an excellent strike. It was noticeable that this dented Aldershot's resolve and it was the Lions who pressed forward for the second. Tommy had to be subbed as his knee was too painful, which meant that Joe Waight was to play the whole game. He influence the play well, both from a defensive and attacking point, setting up attacks for Joe Silcock on the right and Ollie up front. It was from one of these attacks that a penalty was awarded to the Lions after neat interchange between Joe S and Joe W , with a ball laid into Ollie in teh box, who was taken down. Ben Green stepped up, only for the goalie to save well, the ball spun free and Joe S just could not squeeze the ball in with his left foot.
Aldershot were now playing on the break, and the defence of Sam and Adam were coping well with good assistance from the midfield. Ollie was causing problems up front, could the Lions hold on for the win?
Yes the could, much to the relief excitement of the home supporters, a hard fought victory, and a valuable 3 points.
Other results mean that the Lions are now top of the league on goal difference. The next league match against Rushmoor Saints could decide top spot.
Scorer - Ben Green
MOM - Joe Waight

21 January 2012 00:00 - Strong performance results in great win for Lions |
| CPR Lions 3 - 0 Manor Colts
Well what a game, played in a strong wind, the Lions continued their good run of form, keeping up pressure on the teams above them in their challenge for the League
From the start, the Lions immediately got their passing game in gear that resulted in a shot on goal. The Lions were playing against the wind, which gave Manor Colts an advantage and it was not long before the Lions were under pressure, with Manor Colts playing 2 up front. Joe Silcock started in defence with Olli in goal, and the Lions nearly conceeded after a good Manor Colts attack that resulted in a shot going narrowly wide. Oli was then called upon to make a great save from close range and the Lions were really struggling to get up the field against a very strong wind. Indeed Oli pulled off an excellent save to keep out a goal bound header, that was to be a crucial moment.
Steve W working hard in midfield was looking for the telling pass and with5 minutes before the break, the Lions finally managed to get the important first goal. The ball was being worked down the left until Tom Black swung an excellent cross field pass to Joe Silcock who advanced on goal and shot, to see the goalie save , but the ball re bounded and advanced towards the line only for it to be deflected away after glancing the post. Stevie was first to the ball , and keeping it in play played it across the goalmouth where the defence stabbed it clear, only for it to be played back into the box for Tom B to stab it into the net. The pressure paid off and the Lions led, as the half time whistle sounded.
Half Time - CPR 1 - 0 Manor Colts
With the wind at their backs, it was noticeable that the Lions sensed a victory. Manor Colts were experiencing the strong wind, and it was the Lions turn to dictate play. The passing game we have seen develop over the season was again noticeable, with good vision being showed from midfield players Joe Waight and Ben Green to find the wide players. However as always a second goal was needed, and it arrived from Joe Waight, shooting from distance, which resulted in a goalie error. Breathing space meant that the Lions started to play some great football, Sam Walker in particular showed good composure and started running out of defence with the ball and setting up attacks. John Black went agonisingly close with a first time volley that hit the post, as did Joe Waight who had a shot the hit the cross bar with the goalie beaten.
The third goal was probably the best goal the Lions have ever scored. It came after being under pressure in their own box. Joe Waight picked up the ball and set off at pace down the left, the full length of the pitch. After cutting back onto his right foot, he centered to find John Black who had just managed to keep up with him, to slot home. Outstanding goal!!!
Final whistle CPR 3 - 0 Manor Colts
Scorers - Joe Waight, Tom Black, John Black
MOM - Sam Walker |

07 January 2012 00:00 - Great start to 2012 for the Lions |
| CPR Lions 5 - 0 Petersfield Town Scorpions
After the festive break, the Lions were on good form in their return to action against Petersfield Town.
With Charlie absent , top scorer Joe Waight was asked to deputise in goal, however the Lions found a new hatrick hero in Stevie Walker, who had an excellent game. All the boys played well, given that it was a sticky pitch as well as first game for over 3 weeks.
Ben Green opened the scoring from close range. It looked like more goals would follow in quick succession, with the Lions dominating play and creating chance after chance, however it was Petersfield who grew in confidence and forced a number of corners. Joe Waight was not really troubled, however the Lions started to make hard work of it and went in leading 1-0 at the interval.
The second half started with the Lions upping the tempo, and it was viewed on the touchline that a second goal could open up teh game for the Lions. Joe Silcock was finding room on the right, and Olli Blake was influencing the midfield with some good passing and vision. Tom and John Black were causing trouble to the opposition with their determined play, and Tommy Noel, Adam Stockton and Ben Green were all putting in excellent tackles, to restrict Petersfield's play.
Eventually the second goal came, from Stevie Walker, who was on hand to pounce from close range afer a rebound from the goalie. Soon after he scored again after good play from Joe Silcock, on the right with a sharp turn and run, delivering a low cross into the box. John Black then hit a cracking shot against the crossbar, before Tom Black, not to be outdone, hit an unstoppable shot from outside the box. Soon after Stevie bagged his third, after another run down the right from Joe Silcock. His celebration was great to see.
A special mention to Ollie Blake, he had his best performance of the season, with his all round play, in fact it was hard to find fault with anyone, especially for the second half performance. Thanks also to Joe Waight, who did not have too much to do in goal, but what he did do, he did well.
Final Score - 5-0 to the Lions
Scorers - Stevie Walker 3 , Ben Green, Tom Black
MOM - Ollie Blake, but Stevie W was a close second. |

10 December 2011 00:00 - Lions take the 3 points with solid display |
| CPR Lions 3 - 1 Fleet Spurs Spartans
After a hard frost it looked touch and go, whether or not the game would be played, but thankfuly, the sun got to work, and the game kicked off on time.
The boys were certainly up for the game from the start, knowing a win would put them in a good position in the league. Within a minuite, a well worked move involving Joe Waight, John Black and Joe Silcock, resulted in the first shot on goal. This set the pattern of play, with excellent interplay from defence through to attack. The Lions were constantly first to the ball, looked hungry and did not allow Fleet to settle in to their physical game. Tommy Noel was winning tackles, with both Tom Black on the left and Joe Silcock on the right working hard up and down the pitch, giving options in attack with every attacking move.
The Lions first goal came after good quick counter attack football led to a corner. Tommy Noel lifted the ball into the danger zone, and took a slight touch off a Fleet head and into the net. More corners followed in quick succession, the Lions were exerting the pressure and asking questions of Fleet. On one occasion when Fleet did manage to break free of the Lions, excellent cover was provided by Joe Silcock, who managed to win the ball and clear. Adam Stockton playing in defence was putting in strong well timed tackles, and distributing the ball well. Joe Waight, playing in an unfamiliar position of centre midfiled was causing headaches for Fleet, they just did not know how to handle him.
Sam Walker and Ben Green were introduced half way through the first half, with the Lions continuing to dominate. The second goal came after Tom Black was fouled just outside the box. Up stepped John Black to score direct with a powerful shot.
It was a feature of the game, especially in the first half on how well the boys stuck to their roles, a special mention to Joe Silcock, who effectively marked out of the game Fleet's best player.
The Lions hit the bar and post by the time the half time whistle sounded - 2 up , well deserved, but key was to keep it up for the second half.
Half Time - CPR Lions 2-0 Fleet Spurs Spartans.
From the off, the Lions had an opportunity, Joe Silcock found space on the right to find Ben Green at the back post, who just could not find the direction with a header.
It was evident from Fleet's play, that the half would be a sterner test for the Lions, and so it proved. Sam Walker needed to be alert to Fleet's quicker paced attacks, and interplay.
Charlie did not have much to do first half, however he needed his concentration as Fleet started to apply pressure, especially when taking long throw ons. The Lions play was not as fluid, and it was after giving away a free kick, that Fleet were able to get their goal, and excellent free-kick, which Charlie was not able to get close to. 2-1 and Fleet senced that they were back in the game.
Suddenly John Black broke through and was 1 on 1 with the goalie, but a poor first touch meant the chance was gone. This was turning into an exciting game.
Gradually, the Lions upped their play once more and attacks were becoming more dangerous. The important 3rd Lions goal came with 6 minuites to go, from Tom Black who was first to prod the ball home following an attack down the left. Although the Lions supporters may have felt that was game over, it was not, as Fleet responded, and Charlie came up with 2 excellent saves from close range in quick succession. If it had gone to 3-2, then it would have been interesting.
It was not to be and the final whistle went, giving the 3 points to the Lions. It was a great game of football, from which the Lions can be very satisfied.
Final Score - CPR Lions 3-1 Fleet Spurs Spartans
Scorers - Tommy Noel, John Black, Tom Black
MOM - Joseph Waight - All round display playing in a strange position.

05 November 2011 00:00 - Cup run extended for the Lions after away win at Milford |
| Milford Pumas 0 - 4 CPR Lions
The Lions were on the road yet again, for their 3rd round cup tie against Milford Pumas, and on a soggy pitch, played out an entertaining game.
The boys started slowly ( not surprising given the 9.15 kick off ) and it was Milford who started the better, however it was not long before the Lions got their game going, and that increasing pressure led to the first goal, scored by Adam Stockton after good work down the left. The Lions then had a good 5 minuite spell that should have led to more goals, but due to some good goalkeeping , poor finishing and bad luck, it was not to be. Stevie Walker worked hard up front and linked well with Tom Black at one point to carve out a good chance that just went wide. Oli Blake and Ben Green worked tirelessly in midfield as did Tommy Noel and Sam Walker in defence. Gradually, Milford, worked their way back into the game, and should have equalised after some hesitancy in the Lions defence, which saw Charlie save well. Adam was working hard to track back and cover attacks down the Lions left wing. The game was still alive for Milford as the half time whistle blew.
Half Time - Milford 0-1 CPR Lions
It was apparent that the Lions needed a second goal to calm nerves, and after an even first 5 minutes, an attack down the right by Oli, resulted in an excellent cross that was deflected into the Milford net by a defender. Immediately, from the kick off, the Lions put the Milford defence under more pressure and Joe Waight capitalised on some poor defending to score the Lions third. Gaps were opening up all over the pitch that allowed the Lions space and time now to dictate the game. Ben Green took over from an injured Sam Walker in defence, but did not stop him from getting forward to help in attack, as well as being comfortable in a more defensive role and had two good attempts on goal. It is great that the Lions now have boys who can fit into different positions when the need dictates. It was only a matter of time before the fourth goal came, again from Joe Waight, after the goalie had slipped taking a goal kick. The ball fell to Joe, near the half way line, who shot immediately into the top right hand corner.
If it was not for the Milford goalie the Lions would have had more goals, as Milford had lost all interest at this stage of the game.
Full time - Milford Pumas 0-4 CPR Lions
Goals - Joe Waight 2, Adam Stockton 1, OG
Man of the Match - Adam Stockton - good positive all round performance

29 October 2011 00:00 - Lions waight to the last minuite to snatch victory |
| Aldershot Boys / Girls Reds 1-2 CPR Lions
After 2 weeks away from league football, the Lions were yet again on the road and travelled to Aldershot for a crucial fixture, and it turned out to be the difficult game that we expected.
Aldershot in their previous 2 fixtures had drawn against both Rushmoor Saints and Fleet, so we knew our encounter would be tough.
The game started with both teams seeking an early goal. First attempt fell to Joe Silcock who after collecting a neat pass from Joe Waight, pulled his shot wide whilst being challenged by the Aldershot defence. Then Aldershot came forward and tried their luck from distance, which Charlie coped with comfortably. Both teams were cancelling each other out and the game was disjointed. Sam and Adam worked well in defending Aldershot attacks, and the midfield of Ben Green, Tommy Noel, Tom Black and Ollie Blake all battled hard, but found it difficult to make clear cut chances to test the Aldershot goalie. Stevie Walker came on up front, but was frustrated as the Lions moves broke down too often at crucial times.
Just before half time, a real scare for the Lions. A free kick was awarded to Aldershot midway in the Lions half. The ball was delivered in with accuracy, right into the danger area at pace, which Charlie managed to palm up onto the bar. The ball bounced down and was somehow cleared away to safety. The whistle for half time went with some relief and a much needed half time talk ensued.
Half Time - Aldershot Boys / Girls 0-0 CPR Lions
The Lions were now playing downhill, and started the half with added pace to their game. After winning an early corner, it looked like the Lions would take the lead, however it was not to be, as Aldershot responded well, and after some hesitant defending, the ball found the back of the net. The Lions needed to respond and after Joe Silcock found space on the right, his cross was unfortunate not to find a Lions player, but it was to trigger the start of the Lions comeback.
Changes had to be made to the Lions after Joe Silcock pulled his groin and had to go off, with Stevie replacing him on the right. Ben in centre midfield started picking up the loose balls in midfield, and finding both Tom Black and Joe Waight in space. It was from one of these passages of play, that enable Joe Waight to break free from his marker, advance on goal and score from a low hard shot into the corner. The scores were level, but back came Aldershot, applying pressure to the Lions defence from good purposeful attacking play and excellent corners. The Lions had to dig deep to defend, and I must admit, luck was on our side at times, as well as excellent goalkeeping from Charlie.
With about 90 seconds to go, after some Lions pressure of their own, came the winner. Joe Waight found himself free on the left. An Aldershot defender got back to challenge, but Joe beat him with good skill, and opened up his body to stroke the ball accurately into the net. The boys were jubilant in celebration, but it was hard luck on Aldershot.
The final whistle went and 3 points gained, and will probably be the hardest 3 points earned this season.
Final Score - Aldershot Boys / Girls 1 - 2 CPR Lions
Goals - Joe Waight
Man of the Match - Charlie Vincent - Made some important saves to keep the team in the game
Injury News - Joe Silcock will miss next weeks Cup fixture at Milford with a groin strain and is targeting a return in the next League fixture vs Liss in 2 weeks time.

15 October 2011 00:00 - Lions take on Reading U9 Academy |
| The Lions took on the U9 Reading Academy side at the weekend, as our League game was postponed.
The Reading side had some trialists included and it was evident when looking at the Reading boys that the extra year growth in size that the Lions were going to have a distinct advantage phyisically.
The game was played over 4 quarters of 15 mins each, and it was not long before the Lions opened the scoring, with a near post header. The Lions showed excellent teamwork throughout the match, with pressuring of the Reading players a key feature. Reading were not allowed to settle, however when they managed to find space, it was clear that they did have some good skill and composure.
The Lions won all 4 quarters, scoring a total of 15 goals, scorers included Joe Waight, Joe Silcock, Tom Black. John Black, Adam Stockton and Ben Green. If I have left anyone out please let me know.
We played 8 a side, which was good for the boys, in preparation to moving to 9 a side next season. Having that extra outfield player did balance the team. Ollie Blake was in goal, and although he did not have too much to do, he was called onto produce some excellent saves at times, one in particular having to dive low to his left to parry a low hard shot.
The physical difference did have alot to do with the outcome, and the Reading boys did lose heart at times, however they did score in the final quarter.
If the boys can continue to produce good attacking flowing football that was shown, it will hold them in good stead for their important next league game on the 29th Oct against Aldershot Boys / Girls

08 October 2011 00:00 - Lions find their form in convincing win |
| Wey Valley Warriors 1-6 CPR Lions
The Lions travelled to Bordon for their 3rd away game of the season, knowing than a win was needed to move up the table and make amends for their defeat in their last league game.
Straight from the kick off, the Lions looked hungry, putting the Wey Valley defence under pressure. Showing good movement, and passing confidently, it was not long before the first goal arrived. Finding space on the left, John Black passed the ball inside to Joe Silcock, who controlled well, before finishing well, with a strong right foot shot. This energised the Lions, who continued to dominate possession, not giving Wey Valley any time on the ball. The second goal arrived after 10 minuites, with the ball breaking to Joe Waight, who had time to look up and shoot powerfully to the goalies right. Two nil up and all looked well, and the boys sensed more goals. It was at this stage that Wey Valley began to play with more commitment, and slowly started to cause the Lions defence some alarm. Adam Stockton and Ben Green needed to be alert when the Wey Valley midfiled started to break at speed, leaving the Lions defence short of numbers. It was from one of these breaks that Wey Valley scored, was it a cross or shot?? who knows but the ball nestled in the back of the net leaving Charlie stranded. Charlie then came out bravely to smother more Wey Valley attacks, and it was starting to get a bit nervy for the supporters. The Lions responded well, going back on the attack, and with the introduction of Stevie Walker, the passing game returned. One passage of play in particular stood out, with a good 1:2 between John Black and Stevie on the edge of the penalty area could have led to a goal if not for good Wey Valley defending.
Half Time - Wey Valley 1 - 2 CPR Lions
The half time message from Darren was that the boys needed to get back into position as soon as the ball was lost going forward, and overall the second half saw an excellent display of solid defence and good attacking football.
It was not long after the re-start that the Lions got their 3rd. After a general mix up in the Wey Valley defence, the ball found its was to Joe Silcock , who prodded it forward to Joe Waight to finish from close range. Charlie in goal then came to the Lions rescue, with a great diving save after a shot that was deflected looked goal bound. Indeed Charlie did have an excellent game with good handling and kicking all round. Well done Charlie. Ben Green was working tirelessly in midfield, breaking up the Wey Valley attacks and showing excellent close control. Sam Walker in defence along side Tommy Noel challenged well, and only gave half chances to the Wey Valley attackers.Tommy made some great headed clearances, with Sam and Adam clearimng the loose ball well.
The fourth goal was an individual effort from Joe Waight, taking on 3 Wey Valley players before beating the goalie with a powerful low shot. From this point it was game over, and the Wey Valley players allowing more space in which the Lions could play. The fifth goal arrived after excellent pressure being exerted on the Wey Valley goal, with Tom Black hitting a great left foot shot high into the corner, from outside the box. John Black was unlucky to see his shot miss when on the ground, and then Adam hit the post with a powerful reaction left foot shot. The sixth goal was scored by new boy Ben Green, who picked up a loose ball and hit a good sweet left footer, leaving the keeper no chance. It was Bens first goal for the Lions, well done Ben, it was a good one !!!
Overall a great performance, with many good pockets of play. Although this game was against the bottom side in the league, it was not as straight forward as the score suggests. The boys should be please with their efforts.
Goals: Joe Waight 3, Joe Silcock 1, Ben Green 1, Tom Black 1
Man of the Match - Joseph Waight, 3 goals and a good team performance.

01 October 2011 00:00 - Lions ease through to 3rd Rd of Cup |
| Headley Youth Bears 0 - 9 CPR Lions
Not a full match report this week given that the Lions played a fifth Division team who struggled from the start to cope with the Lions play. The gap in level clearly showed with the Lions scoring after just 2 mins through Tom Black. Further goals came at regular intervals from Stevie Walker ( good turn and shot ) 3 from Ollie Blake, all well taken shots, a header from Joe Silcock, a controlled low shot from Adam Stockton, a long range free kick from Tommy Noel and a good composed finish from Sam Walker, his first league goal for the club.
Charlie in goal had little to do in goal and Ben Green, John Black and Joe Waight all contributed to a good team performance and a job well done. Many boys were played out of position, which was a good exercise as it made them appreciate different aspects of play.
It is now back to league football next week when a win will be needed to kick start a stuttering league campaign so far, with atrip to Wey Valley. |

27 September 2011 00:00 - Lions left Fleet frustrated after first loss of the season |
|
Fleet Spurs Spartans 2-1 CPR Lions
The Lions suffered their first loss of the season, on a heavy pitch which clearly hampered their ability to get off to a fast start, and the game quickly settled down to one of cancelling each other out.
The Lions knew that Fleet would set up to disrupt their play, however it was the Lions who created the first real chance, with a great through ball by Adam Stockton to Joe Waight who controlled the ball well to get a right foot shot away, that the Fleet goalie did well to get hands to turn away for a corner. Indeed the Lions were playing the more attacking football, with the midfield of Joe Silcock, Ben Green and Tom Black linking up well.
It was from an excellent passage of play the Lions were unfortunate not to get a penalty, with Ollie Blake breaking clear from a defender , was tackled from behind in the box. To the amazement of the CPR players, no penalty was given..... but then we were playing away from home !!!
Fleet were dogged in defence and did not allow much space, which meant that shots were rushed or possession miscontrolled, which on a difficult pitch was frustrating the Lions. Then came 5 minutes that changed the game, with 2 Fleet goals that came from the Lions inability to clear balls coming into the box from throw-ons. Two good finishes, but one cannot help feeling both were avoidable.
This gave Fleet confidence and added resolve which the Lions found hard to recover from and the half ended with all to do by the Lions
The second half started with the Lions having to defend a corner, and the hope that a 3rd goal was not conceded. Charlie in goal did not have much to do in the second half as the Lions were comfortable in repelling the Fleet attacks through Sam Walker and Adam. Fleet were very much getting as many boys back behind the ball to stifle CPRs attempts to get back into the game.
It was evident that the challenges were getting harder with both Joe Waight and Ollie Blake on the receiving end. Joe Silcock worked hard to make progress up the right and put in some useful crosses, and Stevie Walker making his first appearance on the season, and John Black both striving to get a goal to give the Lions hope.
With 5 mins left, the Lions efforts were rewarded with a Joe Waight lob shot from the left, finding the back of the net.
Despite this, time was running out and the Lions could not find the equaliser, and Fleet held on for the win. Fleet are a very organised team and should do well this season.
The Lions were left feeling down, they did try and play good football, and were overall the better team throughout the game, however circumstances seemed to be against them.
They must learn to defend to ball into the box, with more conviction, and this will be worked on in training.
Goals – Joe Waight

17 September 2011 00:00 - Lions record first win of the season |
| CPR Lions 3 –1 Hartley Whitney Hawks
The boys started well again this week with some “excellent” passing moves. We started with Ben Green leaving his defending boots at home and taking up the striker’s mantle as he linked up very well with both John and Tom Black from the start. It was from one of these moves that John saw a good strike at goal just go over the bar, but there was plenty more to come. The Hartley Whitney Goalkeeper dominated his area and made it difficult for Curley Park to score, but we made our first breakthrough when John and Tom did a lovely one-two, which ended with John slotting the ball home. Hartley Whitney were playing on the break and went close with a couple of shots, which Charlie very confidently handled. Joe Silcock worked hard in tracking back to help his defence. Ollie Blake played well down the left and created space ready to shoot only to be brought down on the edge of the box. Tom Black curled the ball just over the bar from the resultant free kick.
The Hartley Whitney goal came against the run of play from a messily defended corner where the ball ended up in the back of the net. 1-1 and all to play for.
Joe Waight continued to show his passing ability to the team and he deserved his goal which he took on the run and curled his shot into the top right hand corner.
Hartley Whitney could have levelled the game if it hadn’t been for some stoic defending when Adam took up the perfect position when faced with a two on one situation and intercepted the ball with a perfectly timed tackle to clear the danger.
Unfortunately the pattern of passing play seemed to be disrupted by the half time break and the boys didn’t start so well. The worry on the sidelines was another come-back from the opposition. However Sam looked as strong as ever in defence and with Tommy in front of him we kept the ball out well. The nerves were settled when Joe Waight scored his second and CPR’s third when the ball dropped to his feet from a poor goal kick and Joe didn’t fail to score – Thank God he’s not been watching Torres lately!!
The game finished with a well deserved win and 3 points in the bag.
Goals - John Black, Joseph Waight |

10 September 2011 00:00 - CPR Lions Share the points in season opener with Manor Colts |
| MANOR COLTS 3 – 3 CPR LIONS
Well what a weekend that was!!
England Rugby team just scrape a win against Argentina, Andy Murray loses out again vs Nadal, Liverpool do everything but score against Stoke, and CPR Lions draw a game, that we should have won.
Taking nothing away from Manor Colts, who kept going to the final whistle, CPR Lions will be disappointed to leave with just a point, after having played well and looked comfortable for the majority of the game.
After an even opening 15 minutes, where CPR defended particularly well at corners, the Lions took the lead with a well converted goal from John Black, following a quick counter attack. The goal gave the Lions confidence to go forward at will, not allowing Manor Colts much of the ball. The midfield that included Tommy Noel and new boy Ben Green, were breaking up all Manor Colts attempts to go forward, and when they did manage to get near goal, Charlie coped well with shots that came his way. Joseph Waight was a constant threat up front as was Joseph Silcock on the right. Tom Black caused problems on the left and it was Tom that scored the Lions second goal with a good finish from close range. Joe Silcock flashed a shot just wide, following a good turn and Joe Waight was unlucky to see his header go over from a good corner from Joe Silcock. The third CPR goal arrived just before half time through Ollie Blake, who was first to react to a rebound from the Manor Colts goalie following a shot from John Black.
Half time arrived with the Lions 3 up, all looked fine…
The Lions kept up the pressure in the second half, but lax finishing was preventing them from increasing their lead. This seemed to put belief into Manor Colts, who very nearly scored when a quick break through the middle led to s 1 on 1 with Charlie who came out well, the ball was heading for the back of the net until Ben Green managed to get back and clear off the line, excellent cover play.
Eventually Manor Colts did find the back of the net, with a good shot , low to the left of Charlie. A second followed shortly after direct from a corner, following a good save from Charlie. 3-2 and all to play for… The Lions lost their shape, and Manor Colts capitalised and evened the score up with 2 minutes to go. It could have been worse, as on another day, a penalty could have been awarded, but not this time…phew..
The final whistle went and the points were shared. First games of they season are always difficult, and there is much for the Lions to work on before next weeks encounter with newcomers to the league Hartley Wintney
Goals – John Black, Tom Black Ollie Blake |

16 April 2011 00:00 - Defeat leaves the Lions without a voice |
| Ash Trophy - Headley Bears 3 - 1 CPR Lions
I did not think I would be writing my last match report of the season after this game, but that is the case following a disappointing defeat against a team that the Lions have struggled against all season.
The Lions started well, on a very hard pitch, which made ball control difficult. The boys could not get their passing game going which made the game very tight, with Headley breaking quickly given the opportunity. The teams were cancelling each other out until Headley took the lead with a fluke goal. A ball was played in high from the left which Sam left following a call from Charlie. The ball hit the ground hard, and bounced up and over a stranded Charlie and settled in the back of the net. The Lions responded with good attacking play, but came up against strong, and times aggressive tackling, with the ref having to stop the game to speak to some boys asking them to calm down!! Thesecond Headley goal came from a breakaway, following a CPR free kick. Sam Walker was left isolated, and got beaten easily, leaving Charlie on a 1 on1 which he did well when coming out to block the shot, only for it to rebound to a Headley player to score. 2-0 down at half time.
The second half started poorly for the Lions, conceding a goal from a corner, it just left too much to do against a team who obviously like playing against us. The lions went on attack after attack, all the boys were trying as hard as they could, but the ball was not breaking our way. Adam and Sam, Tommy and Stevie all battled to win the ball to set the forwards on their way, with Ollie, Joe S and Tom and John Black all striving to the elusive goal. Eventually in came with about 2 mins remaining, with Joe Silcock pouncing on a good through ball by Tom Black, to neatly finish after taking it around the goalie.
It was not to be enough, with the final whistle sounding what was to be the Lions final competitive match of the season
FULL TIME - Headley Bears 3 - 1 CPR Lions
Scorer - Joe Silcock
MOM - Joe Silcock - a good goal and strong performance on the right.

CPR Lions 4-2 Camberley Town - Friendly
Having had our Ash Trophy fixture postponed, the Lions were able to arrange a return friendly match against local rivals Camberley Town, and what a match it turned out to be.
The Lions were slow to adapt to a hard pitch and quick flowing football by Camberley, who created the most chances in the early part of the first half. Camberley were consistently first to the ball, and gave the Lions little time to settle. Ollie in goal needed to be alert with good attacking play, and Sam / Adam and Tommy in defence had to keep focussed, repelling quick skilful Camberley moves. Joe Waight did manage to get free from the Camberley markers, to fire a good shot in at the Camberley goal, which was scrambled wide. Joe Silcock, and Stevie Walker tried hard in midfield, but just could not get free of their markers. John and Tom Black too found it difficult. If we could get to half time level, then we could re-group, however just before half time, Camberley scored from a cross from the left which was bravely headed past Ollie who attempted a punch.
Half Time - CPR Lions 0-1 Camberley Town
Joe Silcock replaced Olli Blake in goal, with Ollie switching to the left midfield. The message was to pressure and be first to the ball, and put their goalie under pressure, and initial signs were that the Lions were up for it, until they conceded a second, an unfortunate own goal by Tommy, with a good header past Joe. 2-0 down, it looked a tough ask to get back into the game, with the away supporters very confident of a Camberley win, but hold on ...... we are the Lions !!!
The boys responded to going 2 down exceptionally well, hassling their opponents, and generally playing positive football, and with 15 mins remaining, Ollie Blake pulled a goal back from close range, after pressurising the Camberley defence. It was clear that Camberley were affected by the goal, and shortly after a second Lions goal arrived, again from Ollie, after good play down the left. All the boys played their part in this comeback, with Tommy Noel , putting the own goal out of his mind, playing good passes forward for Stevie, Joe Waight Tom and John Black to get on the front foot, and pressure Camberley. Joe Waight hit the third Lions goal, following a hefty clearance from Joe Silcock, 3-2 , what a comeback. The Fourth goal was icing on the cake, again from Ollie Blake, who was having an exceptional game. Camberley rallied and tried to get back into it and broke at pace and numbers when they could, but a combination of good defence from Sam / Adam and Tommy and goalkeeping from Joe, kept them out, to record a great win, and avenge the defeat to Camberley a few weeks ago.
Final Score - CPR Lions 4-2 Camberley Town
Scorers - Ollie Blake 3, Joe Waight 1
MOM - Ollie Blake, a great performance well done
Camberley Town are favourites to win the Premier Division of the Surrey and Berks League, which makes this result even better |

02 April 2011 00:00 - Lions victors in third encounter of the season with Liss Thunderbolts |
| Ash Trophy - CPR Lions 3-2 Liss Athletic Thunderbolts
The Lions, after a week off, started slowly against Liss Thunderbolts, who set up in a defensive formation, as result may be of their last encounter with the Lions, when they suffered a heavy defeat.
The Lions, missing Charlie in goal and Sam Walker at the back, showed hesitancy and allowed Liss to take an early lead, with a good close range finish, that gave Ollie in goal no chance. This seemed to jolt the Lions into action, and it was not long before we started to see the swift passing football, that we have seen in recent weeks. John Black in centre midfield started picking up loose balls and picking out players well. Joe Silcock on the right showed strength in winning balls, and setting off down the wing on powerful runs, and Tom Black on the left, showed similar determination. Adam Stockton, playing the last defender had to be alert in clearing the ball, as Liss played very much on the break. Tommy Noel, recovered well from making early mistakes, and made some good passes. Stevie Walker was his normal terrier self, showing good determination and Joe Waight, was always a threat ,running at pace at the Liss defense. Pressure was gradually being applied by the Lions, and it was John Black who got the equalizer, twisting and turning well in the box, to coolly finish, past the Liss goalie.
This spurred on the Lions to get a second, and what a goal it was, pure Premiership class. Joe Silcock picked up the ball , just inside his own half. Showing real speed and control, Joe took the ball past 2 defenders, and sprinted down the wing, and delivered a quality cross into the six yard box, where Tom Black connected with a classic cushioned volley, into the net - 2-1 up, and the Lions were buzzing.
The Lions continued to press, not allowing Liss to get much meaningful possession. After a few long range shots from Joe Waight and Joe Silcock, it was Joe Waight who grabbed the third, a poachers goal after a goal mouth scramble. The Lions were comfortable and led 3-1 at half time
CPR Lions 3-1 Liss Athletic Thunderbolts
The second half started with Ollie Blake being replaced in goal by Joe Silcock, with Ollie taking up unfamiliar defensive duties alongside Stevie Walker. Despite dominating the game, the Lions struggled to maintain their form, and allowed Liss to come back into the game. Realizing their tactics were not working, Liss were more offensive, getting more boys forward, which stifled the Lions creativity. It was from a long ball that Liss got a goal back, with Ollie unable to get a challenge in on an advancing forward, who just managed to slide the ball into the corner, past an advancing Joe Silcock.
The game then became tight affair, with the Lions going close on a few occasions, and Joe Silcock making a fine save from an accurate shot. A victory was deserved for the Lions, who now need only a point from their final group game to be sure of progression to the knockout stage of the competition.
Final score - CPR Lions 3-2 Liss Athletic Thunderbolts
Scorers - John Black, Tom Black, Joe Waight
MOM - Tom Black, an impressive all round performance, and great goal

CPR Lions 5 - 1 Rushmoor Community Meteors
Spring finally arrived at Lightwater Country Park on Saturday, and the Lions certainly had springs in their boots as they put in an impressive display against Rushmoor, who will be promoted to the Premier Division next season.
The Lions started very quickly, putting the Rushmoor defence under early pressure, however totally against the run of play, it was Rushmoor who opened the scoring after a powerful run and shot that gave Olli in goal no chance at his near post. This set back did not affect the Lions, who maintained their authority on the game, and were showing excellent team play, with accurate, thoughtful passing and good individual skill, in taking on players, crossing and back up play. The Lions equaliser came from Joe Silcock, who collected the ball from a John Black pass on the right. Showing confidence, he took on and beat the defender, and powered into the box and hit a shot that was deflected past the goalie. It was what was deserved, and the Lions went in search of more goals straight from the kick off. Constant pressure saw the Lions being awarded corner after corner, with John Black delivering some great balls in , which both Joe Waight and Joe Silcock got heads to which went wide. John Black, having a dominant game in centre of midfield then had a shot that was well saved, however it was only a matter of time before the Lions took the lead. Stevie Walker picked up the ball on the left side of the penalty area. With a great drag back and shimy that Messi would have been proud of, he got clear of his marker and slotted a neat right foot shot into the net, to loud applause from the home spectators. By now, the Lions were in total control and were enjoying their football. Joe Silcock was a constant threat down the right, with Tom Black doing likewise on the left. The defence of Adam, Sam and Tommy were comfortable in dealing with any Rushmoor attack. The third Lions goal, was another gem, with Joe Silcock grabbing his second from a John Black corner, rising above the Rushmoor defence, and guiding a glancing header into the top left hand corner. The ref blew his whistle for half time, a great first half performance for the Lions.
Half Time - CPR Lions 3 - 1 Rushmoor Community Meteors
Joe Silcock took over in goal from Olli, and the Lions continued to play good thoughtful football. Rushmoor tried to disrupt the Lions play, getting closer to the boys in midfield, and this did prevent any meaningful attacks for the first part of the half. What was really pleasing to the coaches was how the boys were working for each other, tracking back after losing the ball, and their all round persistence in trying to win the ball. Olli and Joe Waight worked well on the left, and created a number of chances to increase the lead, but were unlucky in their finishing. The defenders were having a quiet day, but had to keep their concentration and stay alert. Adam broke up play well, with Sam sweeping up any ball that got through. Eventually the Lions got their fourth, when Adam ran onto a clearance and shot low, with the ball deflecting to Joe Waight to score from close range. Adam had to be replaced through injury mid-way through the half, with Tommy taking his place and contributing to the Lions attacks well. The fifth goal arrived courtesy of a goalie error, that Olli was quickest to react to and scored. On the final whistle, the boys were congratulated on a fine performance, which sets them up well for their next match against Premier opposition Liss Atheletic Thunderbolts.
FULL TIME - CPR Lions 5 - 1 Rushmoor Community Meteors
Goals - Joe Silcock 2, Stevie Walker 1, Olli Blake 1, Joe Waight 1
Man of the Match - John Black, an impressive display in central midfield

06 March 2011 00:00 - Lions win local derby - Friendly |
| CPR Lions 5 - 1 Windlesham
The Lions second game of the weekend was an opportunity to play one of our local rival teams from Windlesham, in a friendly match.
With Ollie and Joe sharing goalkeeper duties, the game was an ideal chance for the boys to play without the pressure league football brings, and the Lions were soon into their stride, creating chances from hesitant Windlesham defending. Joe Waight opened the scoring with a good finish from close range. A second goal came soon afterwards after a good powerful run and shot from Joe Silcock on the right that Tom Black turned in at the far post . With substitutions being made at regular intervals, the Lions lost a little shape, which allowed Windlesham some opportunities to venture forward, without giving Ollie much trouble. Stevie Walker was again showing good touches in midfield, and Tommy Noel was tracking back well and spoiling the Windlesham attacks. Joe Silcock hit the crossbar with another hard shot, and was determined to get a goal, when the ball found its way back to him, when he finished well, giving the goalie little chance. He then added his second and the Lion's fourth soon after, with another good finish. Sam Walker was coping well in defence, and Adam Stockton was at time advancing further forward to help in midfield.
Half Time - CPR Lions 4 - 0 Windlesham
The second half saw Joe Silcock in goal with Ollie on the left of midfield, and as the game wore on the boys all wanted to get forward, which at times allowed Windlesham the space to launch some attacks on the Lions goal John Black was desperate to score and was unlucky when a cross from the left from Ollie came to John, only to see his effort cleared by the goalie. Then as the Lions were exposed, Windlesham managed to sneak a goal, despite Sam trying to track back, the ball evaded Joe from close range.
There seemed a general desire to then play a 1:1:4 formation for the rest of the game , much to certain spectators concern as the Lions went in search of the 5th, which eventually came from a typical poacher’s goal from Joe Waight.
Final Score - CPR Lions 5 - 1 Windlesham
Scorers - Joe Waight 2, Joe Silcock 2 Tom Black 1

05 March 2011 00:00 - WELL DONE to Lions - 2ND place in first season |
| CPR Lions 1 - 0 Manor Colts Black
The day had arrived, and with many serious faces on the boys, coaches and supporters, this promised to be a close game with Manor Colts, the only team capable of piping the Lions to the runners up spot in the league.
The first half started with both teams showing nerves, and struggling to get their game going. CPR were pushing up high in the Manor Colts half, with only leaving 1 defender back, going in search of the all important first goal. CPR won a handful of corners, that did not result in any meaningful strike on goal, and Manor Colts on a few occasions broke from defence quick, that caused the Lions some difficult moments. Charlie in goal had to keep alert, and the defence at times were stretched. If Manor Colts could show a little more composure in front of goal, then the Lions could have been behind.
Both teams were trying hard, but were cancelling each other out, and there were a few hard tackles. Charlie did well with a cross into the box, in coming out a punching the ball to safety. Stevie was tracking back in helping the defence, and the midfield players of Adam Stockton, Ollie, Joe Silcock, Tommy Noel, John and Tom Black all were looking for that pass to release Joe Waight to get that elusive goal. But is was not to be, 0-0 at half time, all still to play for, and another 20 mins of anxiety on the touchline for the coaches, manager and supporters.
Half Time CPR Lions 0-0 Manor Colts
The second half was only a few minutes old when a good move from midfield gave John Black a chance, that went just wide, but the game soon reverted to a tight encounter, with neither team allowing the other to settle. The Lions should have been given a penalty, which was waived away by the ref, who was not having the best of days. Manor Colts were awarded a few free kicks outside the Lions area, that Charlie had to be alive to, which he did cope well with. The game looked like it was destined to be a draw, but with 5 mins remaining, the Lions got the breakthrough. After exerting pressure on the Manor Colts goal, a shot hit the cross bar, the ball was recovered by Tom Black, and the ball crossed low, allowing, yes that man Joe Waight to score probably his most important goal of the season. The Lions boys went mad, knowing how important the goal could be, but there was still time for Manor Colts to get the equaliser.
Manor Colts pressed forward, with the Lions getting behind the ball, and on one occasion got a shot in on goal that Charlie covered well at his near post. All were asking " how long ref ", in the belief it was nearly over.
The whistle blew, and to a loud cheer, the boys could now at last celebrate after a tough win. And what was even more pleasing our first clean sheet of the season.
Final Score - CPR Lions 1 - 0 Manor Colts Black
Goals corer - Joseph Waight
Man of the Match - Sam Walker - Great defending and all round leadership.
WELL DONE BOYS ON A GREAT LEAGUE SEASON

26 February 2011 00:00 - Lions march on after another close game |
| Headley Youth Bears 2 - 4 CPR Lions
The Lions entered their match with Headley Bears, in the knowledge that a victory would put them one step closer to securing 2nd place in the league. Little did they know how hard they would need to fight to secure the 3 points.
After having played 2 games already against Headley this season without recording a win, the Lions needed to start on the front foot, however it was Headley who settled first in a tight first half. Playing on a sloping pitch, and against the wind, the Lions struggled to get their game going, and despite having the majority of possession, they had problems in testing the Headley goalkeeper. It was Headley who struck first, with a low shot from just inside the box that Charlie could not keep hold of. The Lions defence were standing off the ball and allowing Headley to be first to the ball. Joe Silcock and Tom Black with Stevie in central midfield tried to create openings but were repelled by a Headley team getting men behind the ball with a lone striker always a threat. The introduction of Joe Waight, did give the Lions added drive, and it was Joe that found the equaliser after a run and powerful shot. Headley continued to be dangerous on the break, and if it was not for an excellent save from Charlie from a long range shot and brave defending with a goal line clearance by Adam Stockton, the Lions would have been behind at half time.
Half Time - Headley Bears 1 - 1 CPR Lions
The second half started very much like the first finished, with neither team being able to take control of the game. The defences were cancelling out each others attacks. Sam Walker had to be on his guard in handling the lone Headley striker, who was quick and was a constant threat. Indeed, it was from a break away that Headley scored to go 2-1 up mid-way through the second half, that caught out the Lions defence, leaving Charlie exposed, and unable to prevent the goal. Character was needed by the Lions to get themselves back into the game, and to keep their hopes of finishing second alive.
Joe Silcock, working hard on the right, won a challenge on the half way line and set off on a run down the line, avoiding 2 challenges to cross low into the Headley box for Joe Waight to tap in easily for his second. 2-2 the Lions were back in the game. Soon after the Lions were awarded a free kick mid way in the Headley half. Up stepped Tommy Noel to deliver an unstoppable shot, that the goalkeeper stood no chance with. 3-2, and the Lions were in front for the first time. Headley stepped up their game and nearly equalised in a goalmouth scramble, until Charlie was able to get his hands on the ball. John Black on the left wing broke away down the left before putting in a cross for Joe Waight to finish, 4-2, what a turn around. Despite efforts from Headley to get a goal back, the Lions held firm, to record a third successive win.
Final Score - Headley Youth Bears 2 - 4 CPR Lions
Goals : Joe Waight 3, Tommy Noel 1
Man of the Match - Stevie Walker - for constant hassling , determination in the tackle and always looking for a pass.

19 February 2011 00:00 - Lions come out on top in a Classic Game |
| CPR Lions 5 - 3 Wey Valley Warriors
It was touch and go as to the game going ahead, however despite standing water in places, both teams served up a gripping game, in poor conditions.
In what was a crucial game in the Lions effort to secure second spot, against a team that was in good form, the Lions were missing 2 key players in Oli Blake and John Black. The team talk given by the coaches focused on all the good work done in training, and it was key that they got off to a good start.
The game started in heavy rain, with Wey Valley showing why they have been hard to beat. The Lions defence was put under some early pressure, and were lucky to see a good shot hit their post and rebound to safety, this stirred the Lions into action, with Joseph Silcock bursting down the right wing and delivering an excellent shot which the Wey Valley goalie got a finger to tip over for a corner. Tom Black on the left was working hard, and showed good skill in delivering crosses, and Joe Waight was constantly causing the Wey Valley defence concern with his strength and speed. Stevie Walker in centre midfield was a terrier, niggling away and breaking up play. Eight minutes in and the first CPR goal arrived, with a good individual effort from Joe Waight, cutting in from the left, and hitting a hard shot low to the keepers left. Straight from the kick off, the Lions added to their lead, after good work from Tom Black, enabling Joe Waight to score with ease. Joe Silcock was a constant threat on the right, and was enjoying the space he could run into and it looked only a matter of time before more goals arrived, however the game changed on a soft penalty, given for a push in the box. Charlie made a great attempt and saved the shot, however was unlucky to see the rebound fall to a Wey Valley player who finished well - 2-1. Its amazing what a goal does and Wey Valley were back in it, and were attacking with increased confidence. Sam Walker, Tommy Noel and Adam Stockton were having to work hard to track the Wey Valley runners, and on the difficult pitch, were coping well, until a shot from just inside the box was slightly deflected past Charlie. All of a sudden it was 2-2, with Wey Valley sensing more goals. The half time whistle came just at the right time.
HALF TIME - CPR Lions 2 - 2 Wey Valley Warriors
The rain had eased, but the pitch was very heavy, and it was a credit to both sides for the quality of the football being played.
It was crucial that the Lions got a foothold back in the game as quickly as possible. Joe Silcock on the right was still causing trouble with Stevie, Adam, Tommy and Sam all getting in important challenges to stop Wey Valley getting shots on goal. It was getting very nerve racking for the supporters, whose encouraging support was increasing in volume on the touchline.
The Lions were next to score, following a quick break after pressure on the Lions goal. Joe Waight picked the pall up on the half way line after a defensive clearance from Sam, and ran in on goal and delivered a hard shot low to the keepers left. 3-2 up, but the game was far from over!!
Wey Valley do not give up, and back they came. Their passing game was causing problems and they broke in numbers, and they equalised after a good move, which the Lions defence could not avoid. 3-3, 10 minutes left, was there going to be a winner? - can my heart take any more?, little did we know what was going to happen. Charlie saved well stopping a shot on the line, and this seemed to galvanise the Lions
The game entered the final phase with the Lions desperate for the 3 points. Tom Black had the ball on the left, and fed in Joe Waight. He shot and hit the post, the ball rebounded out to Joe Silcock, who from just inside the penalty area hit a bullet of a shot which the goalie did not see. The boys went mad in celebration, however more was to come. Soon after the re-start, again Joe Silcock won a tackle in midfield and set off on another powerful run, going past 3 players and with ease chipped the advancing keeper to make it 5-3, at last we could all breathe a little easier.
In all the Lions hit the post / bar 4 times, shots from Tom Black and Joe Waight and a header from Joe Silcock, something we must address in training!!
The final whistle went with some relief, a great game of football from both sides.
FULL TIME - CPR Lions 5 - 3 Wey Valley Warriors
GOALS - Joe Waight 3, Joe Silcock 2
Man of the Match - Joe Silcock - an outstanding performance, from a very proud Dad !!

12 February 2011 00:00 - Lions back to winning ways |
| Aldershot Boys / Girls Sharks 3 - 5 CPR Lions
The Lions were up early again for their third away game on the trot, travelling to Aldershot on a cold overcast morning.
On a very heavy pitch, the Lions took their time to get into their stride, keen to put behind them last weeks defeat to champions elect Rushmoor Saints. Aldershot started well, and applied the early pressure, and made the most of a sleepy Lions side, in forcing the first corner, which was cleared with some difficulty. A midfield of Joe Silcock, Stevie Walker and Tom Black slowly started to exert their influence, however the first Lions goal came as a result of good play from Joe Waight on the left, who cut in and put a low cross that was deflected into the Aldershot goal by a defender, a little unlucky !! It was not long before the second goal arrived, with again good work down the left wing by Tom Black, who crossed accurately for Joe Waight to finish from close range. Confidence was now high in the Lions play, with Joe Silcock making some powerful runs down the right, and Stevie Walker linking play in the middle between defence and attack. It was therefore a surprise that Aldershot were the next to score , an excellent goal from a corner, a header that gave Charlie no chance. It was clear that Aldershot grew in confidence, and there was a period of play where Aldershot were exerting more pressure on the Lions defence. Tommy Noel and Adam Stockton however stood firm with good interception play that led to the Lions third goal. The ball broke to Joe Silcock on the half way line, who immediately set off on a powerful run past 2 players towards the Aldershot goal. He was up-ended and after good advantage was played by the ref, the ball broke to Stevie Walker, who with ultimate coolness, slotted the ball past the Aldershot keeper and into the net, 3-1. Aldershot straight away restarted with an attack determined to get back into the game and were rewarded with a penalty, hand ball against Sam Walker. Despite a good effort from Charlie, who got a hand to the ball, the half time whistle went with the score 3-2 to the Lions
HALF TIME - Aldershot Boys / Girls 2 - 3 CPR Lions
The Lions started the second half well, applying the pressure game well on Aldershot, and it was not long before Joe Waight added the fourth goal with a neat finish. The Lions were breaking from midfield well, and if it was not for an element of selfishness on their part, the score would have been more. Oli Blake added the fifth goal with a good individual effort. Stevie Walker and Tommy Noel battled well in midfield and constantly broke up attacks from Aldershot and Sam Walker and Adam Stockton undertook their defensive duties with skill and determination.
Aldershot did score a third , right at the end of the game, with Charlie doing well to parry a firm shot, only for it to fall to an attacking player to find the back of the Lions net.
FULL TIME - Aldershot 3 - 5 CPR Lions
Goals - Joe Waight - 2 , Oli Blake - 1 , Stevie Walker - 1 , OG 1
Man of the Match - Tommy Noel - Sheer battling and determination in defence and midfield duties - It was a close decision with Stevie Walker also in the running.

05 February 2011 00:00 - Lions lose out in top of the table clash |
| Rushmoor Saints 2 - 0 CPR Lions
Another early start for the Lions for a 9.30 kick off away to Rushmoor, the run away leaders of the League.
Eager to put on a better performance compared to our previous meeting back in November, the Lions started positively, competing well for the ball, on a heavy pitch. Without Sam Walker, the Lions defence was re-organised with Adam Stockton playing centre back with Joe Silcock and Oli Blake playing wing backs. There were plenty of crunching tackles and interceptions being made, with no team having control of the game.
This changed with a re-organisation of the Lions defence, which caused some confusion, and Rushmoor ceased upon this and took the lead with a long shot which Charlie in goal just could not keep out, despite a good effort. This enabled Rushmoor to take the iniative, and a second goal arrived from a good finish from a cross from the left.
The Lions did not let their heads drop, and continued to compete well, and were unfortunate to see a long range shot from Joe Waight tipped around the post.
The wind was blowing in gusts, that was affecting the flight of the ball at times, which made passing difficult. Charlie had some tricky shots to save, which he did with improved confidence
HALF TIME - Rushmoor 2 - 0 CPR Lions
The Lions were playing against the wind in the second half, and came under inceasing pressure, conceding a number of corners in quick succession, with the defence coping well with good balls into the box. As the half wore on the Lions began to cause the Rushmoor defence problems from John, and Tom Black seeing more of the ball. If only the Lions could have scored, it may have been a different story, but Rushmoor showed why they have such a good defensive record, and why they will win the League.
FULL TIME - Rushmoor 2 - 0 CPR Lions
Although a defeat, the boys tried hard, and showed their opponents that they are a good team. We look forward to next season's matches against Rushmoor, determined to record a victory. In the meantime, we must concentrate on our remaining 4 matches, to try and secure second place.
Man of the Match - Charlie Vincent , a good confident performance, showing great improvement.

29 January 2011 00:00 - Excellent performance leads to convincing win |
| Liss Thunderbolts 2 - 8 CPR Lions
There was a cold early start for the Lions as we travelled on our longest journey of the season for our game with Liss Thunderbolts, looking to reverse our defeat at their hands back in October.
The game saw the return of Charlie in goal, with Stevie being unavailable. The cold morning meant that a good warm up was required, which was to serve us well.
The game started with the Lions imposing their pressure game immediately, not allowing Liss any time on the ball. On a bumpy pitch, the Lions showed composure, and started to pass the ball around with confidence, which enabled early chances to come their way, with Joseph Silcock hitting the post with a right foot shot and Tom Black and Joe Waight both going close and testing the Liss goalie. Liss were playing very much on the break, and looked dangerous when they managed to get forward. It was against the run of play that Liss scored first, with a deflected shot from outside the box that looped up and over Charlie, who just could not get a hand to the ball despite a good effort.
This spured on the Lions, to get the equaliser, and straight away, got back their composure and dominance. Joe Silcock showed great skill both helping out defensively and in attack down the right wing, taking on and beating the Liss midfield and defence, tough in the tackle and getting in good crosses. A flash of skill from Joe Waight saw a long range shot come back off the post. When were the Lions going to score - surely soon !! The midfield of Oli Blake, and Tom and John Black combined to set up Joe Waight with a good finish from close range. 1-1 and the Lions were back in the game. It was not long before the second goal arrived, again a close range effort from Joe Waight, following up a spilled shot by the Liss goalie.
Then, the boys "switched off " and Liss were level, a good move into the Lions penalty box and a good shot across Charlie, giving him no chance. 2-2 half time was approaching, and the scoreline did not truely reflect the Lions dominance.
HALF TIME - Liss Thunderbolts 2 - 2 CPR Lions
The second half display was quite simply supurb, with all the boys playing as a team, working well together, with great passing, running off the ball creating space, showing individual skill, solid defence and self belief. In all 6 goals were scored, all well worked, 3 from Joe Waight, and one each by Tom Black, John Black and Oli Blake. Special mention for Sam Walker, Adam, Stockton and Tommy Noel with their defensive duties, showing good reading of the game and tough tackling. Over the 40 mins, Charlie did not have too much to do, largely as a result of the good defensive play.
FULL TIME - Liss Thunderbolts 2 - 8 CPR Lions
The coaching team cannot praise the boys enough, however the same level of performance is needed for our next match vs Rushmoor Saints next week.
Goals - Joe Waight 5, Tom Black 1, John Black 1 Oli Blake 1
Man of the Match - Joe Waight for his 5 goals, however Joe Silcock ran him close !!

22 January 2011 00:00 - Lions getting "Hooked" on playing good football |
| CPR Lions 4 - 2 Hook Utd Lions
What can I say, but what a good, exciting game of football, played out at Lightwater Country Park. The Lions were looking for revenge, following their last gasp defeat at Hook last October.
The game started with the Lions on the attack from the first whistle, with strong tackling and thoughtful football, which are the attributes that we have been trying to instill into the boys . Pressure was being applied to the Hook defence, with Adam Stockton in particular doing well with a forceful run down the right, and getting in a cross. The midfield of Stevie Walker, Tom and John Black were all putting pressure on the Hook players to great effect, not allowing them to get their game going.
The Lions first goal came from Hook's first corner, which was defended well, with the ball finding its way to Joe Waight on the half way line, He spun his marker well and ran half the pitch to finish well past the Hook goalie, who had come off his line.
The Lions continues to press, and were awarded a penalty, after a challenge on John Black. John took the penalty which was saved by the goalie, but Joe Silcock was first to the rebound and finished with his left foot.
2-0 and comfortable it seemed, when a goal against the run of play for Hook, seemed to change the game, with Hook now growing in confidence, having a number of corners in quick succession, which Oli Blake in goal and Sam Walker in defence coping well.
Just before half time, Joe Waight hit the bar with a spectacular overhead attempt, unlucky !!
HALF TIME CPR Lions 2 - 1 Hook Utd Lions
The second half started well for the Lions, maintaining their good passing and pressing game, allowing Hook the odd opportunity to attack, but without realy threatening goal.
The Lions third goal was a real gem, an excellent glancing header by Joe Waight from a corner, that gave the Hook goalie no chance. The Lions passing game was now working well, with Joe Silcock playing some good through balls and Adam Stockton continuing to show how good a player he is developing into, with confidence on the ball and dogged tackling.
Again it was against the run of play when Hook scored their second, a good looping shot from the edge of the area, that Oli just could not get to. This did not put off the Lions playing good football, showing good one - twos and vision in midfield. The fourth goal arrived coutesy from Tommy Noel, who latched onto a ball from John Black to finish well, 4 - 2 and 3 points were secured.
Hook did play a good game, and will finish well in the League, but with this win, the Lions are up to second, behind run-away leaders Rushmoor Saints. If the Lions can maintain this form, then second place is a distinct possibility, which is what we are all aiming for.
Well done to the boys, a great performance all round.
FULL TIME CPR Lions 4 - 2 Hook Utd Lions
Man of the Match - Adam Stockton, fully committed performance.
Goals - Joseph Waight 2, Joe Silcock and Tommy Noel

08 January 2011 00:00 - Good win for the Lions after 6 week break |
| CPR Lions 5 - 3 Fleet Spurs Spartans
After what seems an age, finally the Lions were able to get back to playing, after having had their match moved back to Connaught due to a waterlogged pitch at Lightwater.
It had been 6 weeks since our last game vs Rushmoor, and the boys were keen to make a good start to 2011, and try to move up the table.
All the Lions goals were scored either by Tom or John Black, with Tom scoring a hatrick on his birthday - Well done Tom
Playing on a smaller pitch, enabled the Lions to dictate the early play, which paid off early with a goal from distance, giving the Fleet goalie little chance. A second followed shortly after, and all seemed straight forward, until a mix up in the Lions defence enabled Fleet to pull one back. Oli Blake was causing problems down the left, with Joe Silcock also going close following a run and shot. Both Adam and Sam W were working hard in defence and Tommy in midfield was keeping alert. A third goal came from an unstopable shot. Fleet started to get back into the game , and started to cause the Lions defence with some good counter-attack football, which meant that Charlie in goal needed to stay alert. CPR scored again to go 4-1 up, however Fleet managed to get a goal back after a good shot which Charlie could not hang onto, and was followed up. Shortly after Charlie made a double save and it was with some relief that CPR managed to squeeze in another before half time, to keep the momentum with the Lions for the second half.
HALF TIME - CPR Lions 5 - 2 Fleet Spurs Spartans.
The second half started poorly for the Lions, giving a goal away early on and thoughts of our first match with Fleet came flooding back, surely we cannot let a lead slip again!! The game became disjointed, and Fleet certainly were having a go, with Charlie having to make some good saves. Joe Silcock was deployed at the back to help Sam out with the Fleet attacks, and the Lions managed to close out the game for a good win for the Lions.
FULL TIME - CPR Lions 5 - 3 Fleet Spurs Spartans
Man of the match - Tom Black
Give that this was our first game for 6 weeks, the boys played well, and gives them something to build on in the coming weeks.

20 November 2010 00:00 - Lions lose out to Tigers |
| CPR Lions 0 - 6 Rushmoor Saints Tigers
After last weeks win at Manor Colts. the Lions came down to earth with a crash last Saturday, in their encounter with top of the table Rushmoor Saints Tigers.
Rushmoor were excellent, in all areas, and did not let the boys play their game from the start. The Lions struggled to get any foothold in the game, with Rushmoor exploiting the gap between the Lions defence and midfield very well. A 0-4 score at half time was an accurate assessment. The only highlight of Lions play was a headed attempt from a corner that rattled the bar bounced down onto the goaline and was cleared.
The second half was better for the Lions, with the boys having more of the play in the Rushmoor half, but struggled to calve out any clear opportunity. Having to chase the game was clearly affecting the boys, who conceeded a further 2 goals.
Final Score CPR 0 - 6 Rushmoor Saints Tigers
We played a very good team, who should win the League. However the coaches felt we could have done better, with more passing and pitch awareness. The boys will have to learn quick as we play Rushmoor again this weekend ( weather permitting ) where we will be looking for an improved performance
No Man of the match was awarded

13 November 2010 00:00 - The Lions roar back with style |
| U9 Premier Div - Manor Colts Black 2 - 8 CPR Lions
Back to the League, after our cup exit last week, with a trip to second placed Manor Colts Black.
We welcomed our 2 new players, signed last week, Tom and Jon Black, who made their debuts, with Charlie and Adam being unavailable.
The Lions started with speed, commitment and skill, putting Manor Colts on the back foot from the off, and scored through Joe Waight in the first minuite. This seemed to instill confidence into all the boys, with 2 more from Joe Waight and Tom Black ( his first for the club ) coming soon after, with good pressing of the Manor Colts defence from Oli Blake and Tom and Jon Black. The new boys were fitting in as if they had played for Curley for some time, showing good skill, and speed of pass, that certainly rubbed off an all the players. Jon Black scored his first for the club, midway through the first half with a good finish, this was becoming our best performance of the season by far.
Manor Colts started to recover their form, and put some neat moves together, that gave Sam Walker work to do, which he did very well, clearing his lines, as well as accurate tackling. Manor Colts scored just before half time, tapping in an easy goal from a ball from the left, giving Joe Silcock ( in goal in the absence of Charlie V ) no chance.
Half Time - Manor Colts 1 - 4 CPR Lions
Joe Silcock was replaced by Oli Blake in goal for the second half, with the Lions, continuing to dominate the game. The movement, and passing of the Lions was excellent, it seemed that the boys were all up for the game. The Lions 5th goal came from a goalie mistake, from Tom Black, scoring his second. Oli Blake, was then called upon to make a great one handed save from a rare Manor Colt attack. The best move of the game came midway through the second half, with a cross ball pass from John Black to Tom, on the run, who collected the ball, cut in side his defender and found top right hand corner. Joe Silcock, then put himself on the scoresheet with a neat right foot finish from a high ball into the box. The 8th came from the penalty spot, after Tom Black was brought down in the box by the goalie. Joe S stepped up and found the top right hand corner with an excellent finish. Manor Colts scored a second shortly before full time, with Oli B being left exposed.
Every boy played a great game, wich resulted in a well deserved and overdue win. Well Done to all
FULL TIME - Manor Colts Black 2 - 8 CPR Lions
Goals - Joe Waight - 2, Joe Silcock - 2, Jon Black - 2 , Tom Black - 2
Man of the Match - Joe Silcock, good all round performance, playing in Goal, Defence and Forward.

06 November 2010 00:00 - No Cup run this season for CPR Lions |
| U9 NEHYL Youth Cup - CPR Lions 3 - 4 Headley Youth Bears
The weather was kind again to spectators at Lightwater on a mild November morning, as CPR Lions had a week off from League action to play in the second round of the Youth Cup.
These teams met a few weeks ago in the league and had a tight 4-4 draw, so we expected another close encounter, and that is what we got.
The Lions took the lead after 5 mins with an excellent team goal, with Stevie W making space down the left, and passing the ball into the middle, where a passing exchange between Oli and Adam enabled Oli B to find the top left corner with a well placed shot. Unfortunately, as has been the case this season, the Lions were not able to hang onto the lead for long, as Headley hit back with a good goal. giving Charlie no chance. The Lions defence seemed rattled, with Headley breaking through with ease, and scoring a second just before half time.
Half Time - CPR Lions 1 - 2 Headley Youth Bears
This was increasingly becoming a very tight and tense game, with both sets of supporters shouting encouragement , which encouraged the Lions to put pressure onto the Headley defence, and resulting in Joseph Waight scoring an excellent goal to equalise. Soon after, the Lions took the lead through another Joe Waight goal, with Tommy Noel working tirelessly in midfield, having his best game of the season by far. Despite hitting the post on 2 occasions and Headley riding their luck at times, the Lions just could not get that 4th goal to put them clear, and were made to pay for it with 2 late goals from Headley, that put is out of the cup.
The boys were clearly dissapointed, but it was a better performance of late, and now we can concentrate on getting up the league.
Full Time - CPR Lions 3 - 4 Headley Youth Bears
Man of the Match - Tommy Noel, excellent committed performance.
Goal Scorers - Oli Blake 1, Joseph Waight 2

30 October 2010 00:00 - CPR Struck by Lightening |
| CPR Lions 3 - 4 Liss Thunderbolts - Premier League
After another week without a fixture due to half term hols, the Lions were back at Lightwater, hoping to get that elusive win, against Liss.
The game was very tight, from the first whistle, with CPR after exerting some early pressure going a goal down, from a long shot. The Lions responded well, and deservedly equalised through a good finish from Oli Blake. We were trying to get our passing game going, to try and stretch the Liss defence, however encountered some very tough tackling, with both Oli and Joe S needing some treatment. CPR took the lead with a scrambled goal from Oli, after a Joe W shot rebounded off the Liss goalie. It is often said that a team is vulnerable, just after scoring, and that was the case, as Liss equalised, straight from kick-off with a good move.
HALF TIME CPR 2 - 2 Liss Thunderbolts
The second half started well for the Lions, with Stevie Walker grabbing his first goal of the season, with a drilled low shot after the best CPR move of the game. Maybe we scored too early, as Liss responded well, and pushed men forward, putting the CPR defence under increasing pressure, which we could not cope with , and 2 goals were lost in quick time.
Despite much effort and hard graft, the boys ran out of steam, and could not get that equaliser.
It was the toughest game to date, and the boys were disappointed, however the message was keep the effort up, and results will come.
FULL TIME - CPR Lions 3 - 4 Liss Thunderbolts

16 October 2010 16:00 - Another nail-biting morning watching the Lions |
| CPR Lions 4 - 4 Headley Youth Bears
At last a home game, on a bright sunny Autumn morning at Lightwater.
On the back of last week's defeat vs Hook, the Lions were keen to get back to winning ways, and started well, exerting some early pressure on the Headley defence. This paid off after 5 mins with Oli Blake finishing well with a low shot. Headley however did respond well, and equalised with a good long range shot giving Charlie in goal little chance.
The Lions defence and midfield were giving space to Headley, allowing them to get close and shoot, and this was causing alarm, however the Lions were able to take the lead once more, with a deflected shot by Joseph Waight, wrong-footing the Headley goalkeeper. Joe W was put through 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper who saved well.
The game developed into a tight midfield battle, with both teams trying to gain the upper hand, the Lions found it hard to get their passing going as Headley closed down quick. An individual effort from Joe W made it 3-1 , however, what is now becoming a famililar story, the Lions were pegged back to 3-3 by half time, through a goalmouth scrambled goal and another defelcted shot.
HALF TIME SCORE 3 - 3
The Lions lost Adam Stockton at half time due to illness, and again the game turned on a free kick to Headley just outside the box ( shame no video replays available !!!! ) It was a dangerous position and a good placed shot made it 4 - 3. At this point the Lions could have dropped their heads, however for the rest of the game, the Lions were the better team, Daniel S had his best game of the season so far in defence, clearing the ball with confidence with Sam W looking assured. Joe Silcock, Oli B , Tommy N and Stevie all contributed well in midfield. Joe W had a cracking left foot hit the bar, and the Lions equalised with a speculative effort from Joe W finding the net after a goalie error. The Lions had numerous corners, had a penalty claim turned down, but just could not find the winner, and finished the stronger of the teams.
FINAL SCORE - CPR Lions 4 - 4 Headley Youth Bears
Man of the Match - Daniel Smith, much improved performance.
We play Headley Bears again on the 6th November in the Cup, we need all your support again, in what will be another close game.

09 October 2010 00:00 - Lions suffer first defeat of the season in a close match. |
| Hook Utd Lions 3 - 2 Curley Park Lions
The Lions were on the road yet again last Saturday, taking on Hook Utd Lions, in what turned out to be an exciting game, with the Lions losing their first game of the season.
On a sloping pitch, the Lions started poorly, having trouble getting hold of the ball and were immediately under pressure. Hook were pressing and having shots from distance, which were dealt with well by keeper Charlie Vincent. The Lions defence were having difficulty clearing the ball from dangerous attacks and Hook took the lead midway through the first half with a close range effort after a save in a crowded penalty box by Charlie V.
With the Lions playing largely on the break, chances were few, and a second Hook goal arrived from a long range effort, giving Charlie little chance. The half time whistle was needed so that the coaches could give much needed encouragement.
HALF TIME - Hook 2 - 0 CPR Lions
Clearly CPR started teh second half on a mission, immediately having a number of chances by Joe Waight, Stevie Walker and Oli Blake going close. A string of corners delivered by Tommy Noel, caused Hook trouble, and only good goalkeeping kept out an excellent low drive by Oli B.
Time was ticking on and the midfield trio of Joseph Silcock, Stevie W and Oli B were in command but CPR had to be careful as Hook were now playing on the break and the defence of Daniel Smith, Adam Stockton and Sam Walker had to keep their concentration. The Lions needed to score to give some hope, and after a goalmouth scramble, Oli B poked out a left foot to stab home, 2-1 , with 8 mins to go. Joseph W hit the post with a good effort. Joseph S was fouled in midfield, giving the Lions a chance to put the Hook goalie under pressure, and a accurate shot from Oli found the net, 2-2, and 2 mins to go.
Hook re-grouped and put the pressure back on the Lions, and in the last minuite, scored a good individual goal from their best player. 3-2 down with little time left, and despite a good freekick from Oli B in the last few seconds, the Lions were left defeated.
FULL TIME - Hook 3 - 2 CPR Lions , another classic match after the Fleet game, an excellent second half effort.
Man of the Match - Oli Blake, 2 goals that got us back in with a chance, special mention to Charlie Vincent in goal, who did well first half.
Next Match - Saturday 16th Oct - Home ( at last !!! ) to Headley Youth Bears

25 September 2010 00:00 - Fleet Spurs Youth 3 - 3 CPR Lions |
| The Lions were on the road again, on a crisp sunning morning visiting Fleet Spurs Youth for our third game of the season.
The game got off to a cracking start for the Lions, with a goal in the first minuite. An attack down the right saw a cross from Tommy Noel not cleared by the Fleet defence, leaving Oli Blake to tap in an easy goal. Straight from the restart, the Lions kept up the pressure, not giving Fleet the opportunity to get into the game, and the second goal arrived on 10 mins. A good corner taken on the left by Joe Silcock, was met on the head by Joseph Waight, with a good finish.
Fleet looked shocked, however, CPR started to allow Fleet space, and were lucky not to concede a goal on 15 mins when a shot hit the post. Joseph W grabbed his second of the game with an individual effort, making it 3-0, however there were signs that if Fleet got a goal, there were not out of it. Fleet went close again when another shot came back of the right hand post, rebounded to an attacker who hit the other post, and the ball was then cleared. The CPR defence were being put under more pressure, and Adam Stockton was again outstanding alongside Sam Walker and Daniel Smith, who had to make some last ditch clearences. It was only a matter of time before Fleet did score before half time, a powerful shot, which Charlie Vincent was unable to hold.
3-1 HALF TIME
The second half was mostly played in the Lions half, who conceded a second from a corner. 3-2, it was now a different game altogether. CPR tried to relase Oli, and Joe W to get that crucial 4th goal, but Fleet were quicker to the ball and were using it better. Charlie had to make some important saves in this period of play, however the Lions couldn't hold out to the final whistle, and conceded with 2 mins to play. A disappointing finish to a game that started so well.
3-3 Final Score - A strange game, one we should have won, but could have lost, so a draw is a fair result- Plenty for the coaches to work on!!!
Man of the Match - Charlie Vincent for some important saves
Next Game - Sat 9th Oct - AWAY to Hook - Detals to follow

18 September 2010 00:00 - Wey Valley Warriors 1-3 CPR Lions U9 |
| CPR Lions U9s were early on the road to play their first away match of the season , after a 2 week break. The weather was bright and sunny in Bordon, where they were to play Wey Valley Warriors.
The boys were slow to start, giving possession away easily, and having difficulty getting into the game. This allowed the early pressure to be applied by the home team, with a number of near misses on goal, corner kicks and last ditch tackles needing to be made. Adam Stockton in this period was outstanding, covering well when the defence was stretched.
Chances for the Lions were few, the most notable, a breakaway by Joseph Silcock, whose shot when under pressure hit the post, unlucky !!.
Charlie Vincent made an excellent save, diving low right to touch the ball around the post. But the pressure was mounting, and Wey Valley took the lead, direct from a free kick on the left. A good finish, which gave Charlie little chance. Half time was needed, for some encouragement to be given.
What a half time team talk !! as a different team took the field for the second half.
From the start, the Lions had more urgency, with the midfield of Oli Blake, Joseph S and Tommy Noel working hard to close down the Wey Valley midfield. At the back Daniel Smith and Sam looked more comfortable and gradually the Lions grew into the game. After a number of corners, the ball came out to Joseph S on the edge of the box to fire low and hard into the right hand corner, 1-1 GAME ON.
The Lions had control of teh game, with Joseph Waight, constantly being a handful for the Wey Valley defence. The second goal came about 10 mins after the re-start, with Joseph S laying a ball square for Oli Blake to find the net with a good finish. Wey Valley were playing on the counter attack, and Charlie had to make a good save to keep the Lions ahead. Stevie Walker suffering the effects of a cold, worked well on the right, always looking for a killer pass. The away supporter's nerves were helped with the Lions 3rd goal, an individual efford from Oli B, high into the corner. The Wey Valley goalie make a number of excellent saves from a frustrated Joseph W, who on another day could have had a few.
3-1 FINAL SCORE, another good result, a good game, against difficult opposition.
Man of the Match- Adam Stockton , for great first half defence.
Next Match - Saturday 25th Sept AWAY to Fleet Spurs

04 September 2010 00:00 - U9 CPR Lions 3-1 Aldershot Boys /Girls Sharks |
| CPR Lions make a roaring start to the season - CPR Lions 3-1 Aldershot Boys / Girls Sharks
CPR Lions made a successful start to their Premier League campaign at Lightwater Country Park on Saturday. Playing on their new larger pitch, they quickly adapted to the increased space and passed the ball around confidently, with Oli B and Joe W in particular working some good moves on the left. It was not long before the Lions opened the scoring, with Joe W latching onto a through ball from Joe S, and finishing well into the left hand corner.
Confidence grew and the boys movement around the pitch was excellent, with midfielders giving good support to the defence , where Sam W looked assured.
The second goal came on 10 mins, with Charlie V, making his debut for the lions in goal, found Joe S on the right, who found Joe W again with a through ball. From a very tight angle, Joe W finished well, giving the Lions a comfortable lead.
Mid way through the half, Aldershot pulled a goal back, with a good finish after a well worked move. This visibly gave them confidence, and the game became tighter. Stevie W playing in midfield was working hard, trying to create opportunities for the Lions and went close from outside the box. Daniel Smith worked hard making some timely interceptions. The Lions needed a third goal, and it arrived , again from a move starting from the back through midfield to attack, where Joe W completed his hat trick in style.
Half Time CPR Lions 3 - 1 Aldershot B/G
The second half was a closer contest, with Aldershot putting CPR under pressure. Excellent defense from Adam Stockton in particular and good cover clearences from Daniel and Oli B helped in soaking up the pressure from Aldershot. The Lions were looking for a 4th goal, which almost came from Joe W but an unfortunate bobble just as he struck the ball, sent his shot wide. Tommy N working well in midfield, came close with a header from a good Stevie W corner. The boys were visibley tired as the final whistle went. It was a good well deserved win to start the season. Well done to all.
Man of the match - Joseph Waight - Excellent 3 goals!!
Next Match - Saturday 18th Sept - Away to Wey Valley Warriors
